Intern/Training Position Details
FOOD AND BEVERAGE
This position offers you the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the field of hospitality food service. As a Food Service Trainee, you will be exposed to the daily operations of the food service industry, while performing practical training assignments. Practical training may include the following assignments: Food Server Assistant, Host/Hostess, Food Service, Beverage Service, Banquet/Catering Set-up and Service, and Food Retail Sales.

CULINARY
This position offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the field of hospitality food service. Culinary Trainee is exposed to the daily operations of the food service industry - specifically, the day to day food preparation, while performing practical training assignments.

FRONT OFFICE
This position offers you the opportunity to understand the daily operational procedures of a hotel or resort front office. Practical training assignments may include: Front Desk, Reservations, Bell Stand, Transportation and PBX operations.

SALARY
Compensation is based on position. When the trainee is working in a tipped position, he/she will be paid at the tip rate. Overtime laws apply when the trainee works more than 40 hours in his/her scheduled week.

Food & Beverage - $3.13 - $4.50 + tips
Food & Beverage Non Tipped - $8.00 - $10.00
Culinary - $9.00 - $10.00 average
Front Office - $9.00 - $10.00

HOURS PER WEEK
J1 regulations require the number of hours per week to be a minimum of 32 hours per week. There may be a few times the hours fall below this, but the majority of the time the participant should be scheduled over 32 hours per week. If a participant works more than 40 hours per week, overtime laws apply and the participant must receive their hourly rate plus one half for every hour worked over 40.

HOUSING
The property makes every attempt to offer housing assistance, this is based on availability. When available, trainees can expect the following:
• trainees are assigned to a two or three bedroom apartment or house based on availability
• trainees will share his/her bedroom
• the cost of rent is varies, average rent is $90.00 - $120.00 per person, per week
• trainees can not break the lease and must remain in housing throughout training period
• host property housing rules apply and are strictly enforced
• apartments are partially furnished; if available, the property will provide some furnishings. Trainees must be prepared to purchase additional furniture, linens, pillows, blankets and cookware.
• trainees should be ready to pay a security deposit, first month and sometimes last month when signing an apartment rental lease. Typically, the security deposit is 100% refundable as long as the terms of the lease have been met and the apartment is returned in the same condition as it was rented. Security deposit is normally equal to one months’ rent, sometimes lower.

TRANSPORTATION
Transportation to and from daily work schedule is the responsibility of the participant. Most of the participants live close to the hotel so they are able to walk, ride a bicycle or take public transportation. Key West is a small island, just two miles by four miles. Just about everything is a short walk or bicycle ride away. Public transportation is also available, however bus schedules are very limited. The Key West Transit runs from employee housing to property for $1.00.

Transportation from airport to hotel is the responsibility of the participant - in most cases the hotel will assist in organizing and in some cases assists with the cost.

Air Transportation is the responsibility of the participant.

DRUG FREE WORKPLACE
This Host Property is Drug Free Work Place. You will be required to take and pass a pre-employment drug test. Failure to pass such drug test will result in immediate termination, cancellation of visa sponsorship and immediate repatriation. Trainees are not permitted to start working until the host property receives the results of the drug test, this can take a few days.

SOCIAL SECURITY REQUIREMENTS
Upon arrival you will be required to apply for and obtain a social security card. Your host property will provide you with directions and information on how to obtain this card.
